Small Beginnings, Big Purpose

March 10, 2026

Preparing fresh veggie cups before heading into the community.

Every movement starts somewhere. For Nickie’s House, March 10, 2026 became one of those days we’ll always remember — not because it was a huge event or because hundreds of people showed up, but because it reminded us that meaningful work often starts with simply showing up.

Nickie’s House had the opportunity to sit in on its first plant sale at SunFlower Co-Op alongside Amarah Wright, Founder of www.NurseryDamour.com, and Stephanie, Founder of Black Chick Farm. Being surrounded by individuals already creating impact in the community was inspiring. It was a reminder that community work grows through connection, shared spaces, and people who care enough to keep showing up.

What looked like a simple day at a plant sale represented something much bigger for us.

  • It represented growth.

  • It represented relationships.

  • It represented possibility.

After the event ended, the work continued.

Our first community outreach setup in North Omaha.

Nickie’s House headed into the North Omaha area near downtown and distributed 32 fresh veggie cups and 60 juices to neighbors in the community.

The numbers may seem small.

But every cup handed out represented more than food.

  • It represented care.

  • It represented presence.

  • It represented a simple reminder that someone sees you.

As a new nonprofit, we are still building. We are still learning. We are still growing. There are no large buildings yet. No fleet of outreach vehicles. No massive operation behind us.

Just purpose.

Just heart.

Just people trying to fill gaps in our community one step at a time.

That day reminded us that impact is not always measured by size. Sometimes impact looks like a conversation. Sometimes it looks like a smile. Sometimes it looks like a veggie cup and a juice handed to someone on an ordinary afternoon.

And if this day taught us anything, it’s this:

We don't have to wait until everything is perfect to begin helping.

This was only the beginning.
